Goals
Goals
I signed up for an online course on goal-setting, hoping it would get me motivated. What goal did I want to address? Let's see, there's getting the house organized, taking care of my health (subcategories: eating healthy and getting exercise and taking care of my skin, hair, etc.), writing my book and getting it submitted... which one??! The site already point-blank said we can't work on more than one, since what we are learning is the process, and that is best served by focused attention to ONE goal.
I decided to focus on time management. So often I feel overwhelmed with a thousand things I need to do, want to do, should do, have to do, could do -- you know, just a regular day in the life of a minivan-mom in the suburbs -- and I get frustrated with the amount that I CAN'T get to for whatever reason. I do let myself slack off here and there, on things like the dishes (I wash breakfast and lunch, after lunch -- well, okay, right before Matt gets home, usually!) or laundry (one more fluff cycle, I don't feel like folding right now) or cleaning/organizing (I need a block of time for that, so I won't even start it now in this little window of time that I have...) etc., etc., etc.
Did I hear an amen?
What makes things more obvious, I have the world's most amazing husband, who is a whirlwind of action from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. He checks laundry on his way in the house, starts drying dishes as soon as he hits the kitchen, waters while spending time with the kids, etc.
I decided to see what would happen if I actually did the things I'm supposed to do, when I'm supposed to do them, instead of putting them off. (I was between books, so that helped tremendously... no pull to take a minute to read just a few pages.)
I'll let you know how it goes, and if the site is helpful. In the meantime, I think I've got some towels to fold and put away. :)
Post Script: Nope, the class didn't do it for me. The information given was vague and scattershot, in my opinion. (I felt like they gave me the alphabet and said, "Figure out if there are any combinations that work. There IS a pattern, if you look hard enough! GO!") I asked for a refund, and dug out my favorite classic goals book by Brian Tracy, instead. Oh, well.
